What it does

There is a problem with how most people use AI for learning, and I want to name it directly. The problem is not that AI is stupid. AI is, by any reasonable measure, the most articulate thinking partner ever built. The problem is that AI is too articulate. It is too fluent, too available, too patient, too tireless, and too willing to make you feel smart. The result is the worst kind of failure mode — the kind that feels like success. You leave a long conversation with an AI about something you care about. You feel like you've grown. Three days later, you cannot reproduce the insight. Three weeks later, you've forgotten the conversation ever happened. The AI has gotten smarter. You have not. I lived inside this failure mode for six months before I built anything.
