Product Hunt alternatives, measured – not guessed

Every list of Product Hunt alternatives tells you which boards exist. None tells you what it takes to place on them. We count every launch day on five boards – Product Hunt, Uneed, Show HN, Fazier and SmolHunt – after the day has closed: how many products entered and what each placement down the ranking cost. Below, those counts side by side, and every other place to launch we know of.

The five boards, side by side

Median over the closed days we measured in the last 180 days — the same days the launch planner and the launch stats count. Product Hunt has no rank-ten count in our data, so its column shows what it took to be featured instead.

Board Launches on a median day Upvotes for the top ten Days measured
Product Hunt 703 124* 144
Uneed 24† 4 142
Show HN 122 9 142
Fazier 14 26 141
SmolHunt 2 fewer than ten launches 10

* Product Hunt: what it took to be featured (the lowest featured score of the day). Featuring is editorial; Product Hunt publishes no threshold.

† A floor: Uneed’s ranking ends at place 50, so on days with more launches the count stops there.

Which one fits your launch?

Take 26 upvotes — what a top-ten place cost on a median day on Fazier, the dearest of the smaller boards. Over the last 180 days that number would have been enough

  • Product Hunt: to be featured on 0 of 144 measured days (0%)
  • Uneed: for the top ten on 140 of 140 measured days (100%)
  • Show HN: for the top ten on 133 of 142 measured days (94%)
  • Fazier: for the top ten on 55 of 108 measured days (51%)

Your number is not this one. Put your own into the launch planner and it runs the same count for every board — first place, the top five and the top ten. Free, no account.

Every place to launch we know of

22 places to launch or list a product. We measure 5 of them every day; for the rest we have no counted days, so there is no number. Measured ones first, then alphabetical — not ranked by size, because none of them publishes visitor numbers and a ranking would have to invent them.

How we count

Each board is read after its day has closed, and the day is kept: how many products entered, what the winner scored and what each placement cost. Product Hunt, Uneed and Show HN through their official APIs; Fazier and SmolHunt are read off the page, because neither publishes one. Every figure is a median, never a mean — launch days are skewed, and one viral day pulls an average far from anything you will meet. 579 board days are on file so far, and every board adds one more every day.

These numbers say what a placement costs in upvotes. What it is worth in visitors no board publishes — anyone quoting you that is guessing, so we do not print a figure for it. Does the weekday matter on Product Hunt?

Worth it for as long as your launch can still collect upvotes. Wherever you launch — Product Hunt, Uneed, Show HN — put your launch page in front of founders on LaunchAmp for 1, 3 or 7 days: from launch day or any day after, while it’s still live. We never sell or promise votes — you get the visibility, the votes are up to your product.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you launch.

What is the best alternative to Product Hunt?

The one your upvotes are enough for. Over the last 180 days, the cheapest top ten among the boards we measure was on Uneed: 4 upvotes on a median day, with 24 launches. On Product Hunt it took 124 upvotes to be featured, with 703 launches on a median day. Every figure is a median over the measured days; the launch planner runs your own number against every board.

Is Uneed better than Product Hunt?

It is smaller and cheaper to place on. Over the last 180 days a median Uneed day had 24 or more launches and the top ten started at 4 upvotes (142 days measured). A median Product Hunt day had 703 launches, and being featured took 124 upvotes (144 days measured). Which is better for you depends on whether your upvotes reach the bar; nobody publishes what either placement is worth in visitors.

Where should I launch after a weak Product Hunt launch?

On a board where the upvotes you actually got would have placed. Medians over the last 180 days, cheapest first: Uneed (top ten from 4), Show HN (top ten from 9), Fazier (top ten from 26). Enter your real number in the launch planner to see how often it was enough on each. Your Product Hunt page stays live after launch day, and a free listing in the Launch Lounge keeps a followed link to your product either way.
